Sick Girl

When your child doesn’t feel well, you want to do whatever it takes to ease the discomfort and speed up the healing process. From stomach bugs to ear infections to minor injuries, our pediatricians will evaluate your child, make a diagnosis and determine the best plan of action to restore health. We are available, day or night, to address urgent medical concerns when they arise.

Dealing with the Unexpected

Most people plan well visits for their children at a convenient time. Unfortunately, your kids can’t schedule their illnesses in that same way. The following tips will help you deal with common childhood ailments.

  • Allergies

Exposure to ragweed, dust mites, pet dander or certain foods can cause your child to have an allergic reaction, the body’s over response to a harmless substance (an allergen). If you have concerns about allergies, talk with your pediatrician about testing.

  • Asthma

Approximately six million children have asthma, a chronic disease of the airways in the lungs that produces tightening and inflammation. Signs of asthma include wheezing and tightness in chest.

  • Diarrhea

Viruses, the flu, and food poisoning can all cause diarrhea, which can cause dehydration and that is our number one concern. Offering an oral rehydration solution (ORS) like Pedialyte in small sips will help your child begin to recover.

  • Ear infections

By age one, most children will have at least one ear infection. Some children have no signs, but others exhibit symptoms like irritability, pulling on the ears and fever. To confirm the diagnosis, your child will need to see one of our pediatricians.

  • Fevers

Any temperature over 100.4 is considered a fever. Using an over-the-counter medication such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, when age appropriate, will bring the temperature down and reduce discomfort. Call us immediately if your newborn has a fever over 100.4, your baby has a fever over 101 or your child 12 months and older has a temperature over 103.

Don’t let illness keep your child down for the count. Our pediatricians in Plano offer top-notch treatment for our community’s children, including sick care. To make an appointment with one of our pediatric associates, please call our office.
